San E & 13 International Rappers Team Up for ‘#HipHopIsHipHop’ Charity Single

In a day when the question “what is real rap?” stirs heated debates on the regular, an international team of 14 rappers are here to declare that “hip-hop is hip-hop.”

Billboard is excited to exclusively reveal that San E has enlisted 13 fellow MCs from around the world to participate in “#HIPHOPISHIPHOP.” The single represents 14 MCs from 14 different countries who express their love of hip-hop music and culture in their own language and style on one track. Check out the official teaser for the single and video below:

Led by South Korea’s own San E — who rose to major fame with K-pop/rap hits like “Break Up Dinner,” “A Midsummer Night’s Sweetness” and “Body Language” — “#HIPHOPISHIPHOP” is described as a movement to unite the world with rap music regardless of race, nationality, language or even sex.

The impressive roster also boasts veteran American MC/producer KRS-One, Finland’s award-winning rapper Redrama, Wales’ Mr Phormula, Japan’s Julian Nagano, India’s Adx, Italy’s Strike the Head, Bosnia’s Frenkie, Taiwan’s Mr. Skin, Singapore’s Pendekar, Portugal’s Valete, Indonesia’s Yacko, Bangladesh’s SadmAnn and Egypt’s Deeb.

Inspired in part by “We Are the World,” the superstar charity single released both in 1985 and in 2010, “#HIPHOPISHIPHOP” looks to follow in a similar vein and help those around the world in need. All profits from the track will be donated to children’s education through UNICEF.

“#HIPHOPISHIPHOP” will premiere via its official video music next week, March 3, on Billboard. In the meantime, watch a shoutout video for the project featuring hip-hop honchos like DJ Premier, Rook of J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, DJ Don Cannon and many more voicing their support for the upcoming global track.

L-FRESH The LION – ONE

ONE - Album cover hi-res

The past few years have held great promise for L-FRESH The LION. The 25-year-old MC, currently residing in Melbourne, has come a long way since his days as an emerging artist born-and-raised in South West Sydney.

Creating a name for himself with his versatile catalogue and engaging live show, he has gone from strength to strength, nabbing high profile supports spots nationally (Nas, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Chali 2na (Jurassic 5), MC Supernatural, DJ Qbert, Horrorshow & The Herd) and churning out records that have hit home with a constantly growing fanbase.

Now, his much anticipated debut album, “One”, has been released on Friday 9th May 2014 via MGM Distribution.

Produced by Michael McGlynn (Vienna People Recordings) and L-FRESH The LION, it is an energetic, soulful, expressive and inspiring release with banging beats and thoughtful words.

His impressive list of achievements caught the attention of Hip Hop legend KRS One, who, in a very rare guest appearance, introduces the album on the first song in praise of L-FRESH The LION: “We need more MCs like you”.

It also features guest vocals by Sydney Hip Hop veterans MIRRAH and MK-1, soul and R&B sensation Mike Champion, Kimberly Aviso, Jess Starreveld, and Punjabi singer Jeet Hakam.

The album’s lead single, also titled One, received solid rotation on triple j and was one of the most added songs to radio nationally. Second single, Faithful also received play on triple j and on community radio nationally. And third single, Survive, was recently added to rotation on triple j. All of the singles have been played internationally in the US, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia.

L-FRESH The LION is celebrating the release of his album on a 5 city national tour (Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth) presented by Big Tree Artists.
